ELEMENTAL STUDIO SCHOOL

In 2006 Leza decided to start a jewellery school in order to pass on her knowledge and help people explore their own creativity.

There is a fully equipped, bright and spacious workshop in Linden. The workshop contains five fully equipped benches. All the tools are supplied, materials are charged extra.

All jewellery created by our students.

Class times:

  • Tuesday 9am – 1pm
  • Tuesday 1pm – 4.30pm
  • Wednesday 9am -12:30pm
  • Thursday 9am – 1pm
  • Saturdays 9am – 2pm (2 per month) The Saturday classes may run consecutively to accommodate all students.

Superbly creative, imaginative and skilful artist is Leza. Her creations are exquisite….and she is a wonderful, patient teacher. I’d give 10 out of 5 stars if I could – Rene Stevenson (Student)

Do I need to have any experience to start jewellery classes?2020-03-07T10:38:58+00:00

Not at all. All beginners welcome.

When can I start?2020-04-01T13:26:57+01:00

Classes are subject to availability. Currently, Saturday class are full but we can add you to the waiting list. Weekday classes’ are more flexible, and I generally have spaces.

How old must I be?2020-03-07T10:36:04+00:00

The school is set up for adult students.

How long does it take?2020-03-07T10:59:15+00:00

Goldsmith techniques is a practical skill, therefore the more time spent learning the skills the better. A jewellery apprenticeship, for example, takes about four – five years of daily learning and practise.

Most students attend on an ongoing basis, many have been with me for over five years.

There are institutions available for those who would like to pursue a career as a goldsmith and can be found here. Postmatric.co.za/jewellery-designer

Do I need tools?2020-03-07T10:53:43+00:00

All tools are supplied and there are five fully equipped work stations.

Do I need strong hands?2020-03-07T11:00:44+00:00

Yes, but your hands will get stronger.  Although any injuries or conditions that affect the hands means that you may be limited for the skills required. It is quite a physical job and requires a high level of patience.

How long are the classes?2020-03-07T11:01:50+00:00
  • Tuesday and Thursday mornings 9am – 1pm.
  • Wednesday, 2 sessions 9am – 12:30pm and 1pm – 4:30pm.
  • Two Saturdays per month 9am – 4pm.
How do class payments work?2020-03-07T10:26:11+00:00

The classes are paid at the beginning of the month. If you miss a class unexpectedly, you are more than welcome to make up in another time slot. Missed class payments do not get carried forward to the next month.

What will I make?2020-03-07T10:54:56+00:00

There are 3 initial projects.

  • a pierced out moon pendant
  • a soldered and flattened chain
  • a comfort fit ring.

Most students are then able and keen to start on their own designs.

What materials will I work in?2020-03-07T10:56:37+00:00

Mostly sterling silver, although some students work in gold. All materials are a separate cost.

How will I know if this is for me?2020-03-07T10:57:13+00:00

It’s pretty much self selecting, you’ll be able to tell at the end of the first lesson if this appeals to you. But if you are interested in detail, like to concentrate and focus, and have a desire to design then this is for you.

Does the school offer any qualification?2020-03-07T10:57:39+00:00

We do not, the set up is for hobbyists only or as a stepping stone to more formalised training.
